Weekend bouts! Scores!
Tiger Bay Brawlers came to London with amazing fans and some sweet skills. They kept the UFs to a nail biting close first half. In the second half however the UFs lead stretched and the final score was:
TBB 146-105 UFs
Next up the Suffrajets squared up to the Harbour Grudges. Both teams losing their season openers so this was an opportunity for all!
The Grudges took an astonishing lead - I...

Season 3 Championship Preview
LRG Season 3 Championship: Saturday 9th July, 4pm. Tickets here
“If we play our game and keep our heads, the Championship is ours for the taking.”
Slice Andice, captain of the Steam Rollers, doesn’t doubt her team’s ability to take the LRG season championship trophy in July. The Harbour Grudges, however, will have other ideas. They are “a force to be reckoned...

Presenting the summer 2011 travel team squads...
Every three months (or so) a crack team of LRG coaches and captains gets together and deliberates long into the night on the composition of our travel team squads. Our current method is to select a squad of 20 players for London Brawling, our All-Star/A team. Six of those players are ‘crossover’ skaters, who also play for Brawl Saints, our All-Star Reserves/B team. A further 14 players...

Kit Check: Carrie
When starting roller derby my aim was to get the best gear I could as cheaply as I could, in case it turned out I didn’t actually like it after all. What? It could happen. (Um, could it? Has it? Do people give it a go and never come back again? I can’t imagine…)
A few weeks in, and realising I was hooked, it was tempting to go out and blow all my money on amazing gear I didn’t need, especially...

Stir-crazy: Fox
Just over a week without skating. It’s fairly rare that this happens, and I’m starting to get a little stir-crazy. The weather has been wet or changeable enough that I’ve not really been able to skate outside, and I also failed to make it to the gym last week despite taking a week off work, so I’ve had nothing to burn off the excess energy/aggression. Antsy, is the word.

Starting and stopping: Phillippa
So after a few times out on my skates and even more time roaming the internet I decided it might be best to have a go at some basic roller skills. In particular I felt my practice may be improved by honing the fine art of stopping, which up until now had consisted of either letting myself slow to a stop or, on less well timed occasions, sort of half-crashing into, half-grabbing some near-by...

Baby zebra: Max
When I told my friend Chris I was training to become a Roller Derby ref he had only one question for me: “Are you having a mid-life crisis, Max?” he said, resting a hand on my shoulder. He had a point too; upon joining I’d simultaneously quit my oh-so cushy government job to again pursue a career in the film industry (the last attempt didn’t really go too well), I was 31...

Fresh Meat: Carrie
I’m not sure how to begin this blog but some sort of introduction seems called for. I’m Carrie, no skate name as I am far too new. I started the Fresh Meat programme in February and have spent the last 13 or so weeks learning how to stop and fall so I don’t kill myself, and recently scrimmaged for the first time. That was somewhat mental, I have to say. Fresh Meat is over, I guess, and I haven’t...

Dipping a toe stop in: Phillippa
I have to confess, if I you had asked me 6 months ago what I thought of roller derby in the UK I would have said ‘They have roller derby in the UK?!’ and if you had asked me the same question a year ago I would have said ‘Umm, what is roller derby?’. But once discovered it didn’t take long for me to start thinking that this was the sport for me. So, I had been to a...

Introduction: Fox
The week before two Brawl Saints games followed by a summer break is probably not the best time to start a training diary/blog thing, but my timing has never been spectacular. So here we go anyway. Hi.
A bit about me, before we begin. I’m Fox Sake, and I have a derby problem. I’ve been a member of the London Rollergirls for a little over four years now. I’m primarily a jammer...
